How to Pay for Gemini 4 Argon with Crypto: Plans and Prices
Pay for Gemini 4 Argon with crypto: Google AI Pro is $19.99/mo, the API is $2/$10 per 1M tokens until Nov 30. Which plan gets Argon and how to fund it.

To pay for Gemini 4 Argon with crypto, you need two things: the right Google plan and a payment method Google will take. Argon is in the Gemini app for Google AI Pro ($19.99/month) and Google AI Ultra subscribers, and on the paid tier of the Gemini API at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens until November 30, 2026. Google does not accept crypto directly. The workable crypto routes are a crypto-funded card, Google Play balance bought with crypto (in selected countries, for the subscription), or a crypto-funded API router such as OpenRouter.
Each route has its own catch. Google's own pages say prepaid cards are not accepted for Cloud billing, and that matters for the API. This guide covers which plan gets you Argon, what it costs, and how to pay for each with crypto.
Gemini 4 Argon became generally available on October 13, 2026. Google's launch post says it "is now globally available today for developers and enterprises via the API in AI Studio," and that it is in the Gemini app and AI Mode for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, per Google.
Google describes the API model as having a "1M unified input-output token limit via the Gemini API," in the same launch post. The model ID on the API is gemini-4-argon, per Google's Gemini API pricing page.
Google announced a newer model, Gemini 4 Carbon, on October 28, 2026, but for now it is limited to "a subset of cyber defenders," per Google. Argon is the model you can actually pay for today.
Argon comes through two doors: a consumer subscription for the Gemini app, or pay-per-token on the Gemini API. The free Gemini plan does not include it.
| Access | Gets Argon? | Price (US) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gemini free plan | No (Flash-Lite model) | $0 | gemini.google |
| Google AI Pro | Yes, "Access to Gemini 4 Argon" | $19.99/month | gemini.google, one.google.com |
| Google AI Ultra (5x) | Yes, "Highest access to Gemini 4 Argon" | $99.99/month | gemini.google |
| Google AI Ultra (20x) | Yes, 20x the AI Pro usage limits | $199.99/month | gemini.google |
| Gemini API, free tier | No | -- | ai.google.dev |
| Gemini API, paid tier | Yes | Per token (see below) | ai.google.dev |
Google AI Pro is $19.99 a month, and Google's plans page lists "access to our Gemini 4 Argon model, Deep Research and more," per Google One. It also includes 5 TB of storage across Google Photos, Drive and Gmail.
Google's Gemini app announcement names "Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers" as the plans that get Argon, per Google. Ultra mainly buys higher usage limits.
Ultra comes in two sizes: $99.99 a month for "5x higher usage limits vs. AI Pro" and $199.99 a month for "20x higher usage limits vs. AI Pro," per Google. Google's launch post lists Google Antigravity access to Argon for Ultra subscribers, per Google.
Ultra subscribers "can try it in AI Studio," per Google's developer post. That is a trial inside AI Studio, not a substitute for a paid API project.
No. Google states that "Gemini 4 Argon is not available on the Free tier" of the API, per Google. The free Gemini app plan uses the Flash-Lite model, per Google.
The API bills per token, and the price doubles on December 1, 2026. Google calls the current rate an introductory price, per its launch post.
| Gemini 4 Argon API (per 1M tokens) | Until Nov 30, 2026 | From Dec 1, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Input | $2.00 | $4.00 |
| Output (including thinking tokens) | $10.00 | $20.00 |
| Context caching | $0.10 | $0.20 |

New paid-tier users default to Prepay: you buy credits in advance and API calls draw them down, per Google's billing docs.
- "The minimum purchase is $5."
- "The maximum amount of credits you can prepay for is $5,000."
- When the balance hits $0, requests "fail with an HTTP 402 Payment Required."
- Credits can reload automatically "when your balance is low," per Google.
All of this runs on a Google Cloud Billing account linked in AI Studio. That detail decides which crypto routes work, covered below.
No. Neither Google One nor Google Cloud lists cryptocurrency as a payment method. Google One accepts a credit card, a bank account (US only), PayPal, and "Google Play balance (Selected countries/regions only)," per Google One Help.
Google Cloud, which handles Gemini API billing, accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express and "Debit cards with the Visa or MasterCard logo," per Google Cloud. The same page says "Prepaid cards aren't accepted for payment." It also says "Debit cards that require two-factor authentication aren't accepted for payment."
So every crypto route below converts your crypto into something Google already takes. For the wider picture across YouTube, Workspace and Ads, see how to pay for Google services with crypto.
The subscription is a Google One charge, so you have two crypto routes.
A crypto card converts your stablecoins or other tokens to dollars and gives you a Visa or Mastercard number to save in Google One. Virtual for AI & Ad Spend is a SolCard virtual card built for AI tools and ad platforms: $10 to issue, 5% per top-up, funded with USDC, USDT, SOL and other assets.
Be clear about what that means here. It is a prepaid card, and SolCard has no payment data on Google charges with it yet, so we cannot tell you how often Google accepts it. Try it with one month of AI Pro before you rely on it. If a charge fails, why is my crypto card declined walks through the causes and fixes.
- Get Virtual for AI & Ad Spend and top up with crypto.
- Load at least the plan price plus the 5% top-up fee (about $21 for AI Pro).
- In Google One or the Gemini app, choose Google AI Pro or Ultra and add the card number, expiry and CVV.
- Before each renewal date, check that the balance covers the next charge.
In some countries, Google One takes Google Play balance for subscriptions, per Google One Help. You can buy Google Play gift cards with crypto from gift card sellers and redeem them to your balance (how buying gift cards with crypto works).
The limits: it only works where Google supports Play balance for subscriptions, and you must top up the balance by hand before each renewal.
The API is the harder case. Gemini API billing runs on Google Cloud, and Google Cloud's payment page states plainly that prepaid cards aren't accepted, per Google Cloud. SolCard's cards are prepaid. A crypto card may still go through on a given charge, but you are working against Google's stated rule, and a failed reload means your API calls return 402 errors.
OpenRouter lists Gemini 4 Argon as google/gemini-4-argon, per OpenRouter. OpenRouter accepts "all major credit cards, AliPay and cryptocurrency payments in USDC," and says there "is no markup on inference pricing," per its FAQ.
You pay Google's per-token rate plus OpenRouter's fee on each credit purchase. The fee schedule and how to keep credits topped up are in our OpenRouter payment guide. This is the only route here where crypto goes in directly, with no card in between.
If you want a direct Google API key, you need a card on a Cloud Billing account. A crypto-funded card is a prepaid card, so Google's own policy is against it. If you try it, buy a small $5 credit first, keep auto-reload off until it has worked, and have a fallback ready.
Gemini app on Google AI Pro, paid with Virtual for AI & Ad Spend:
| Line | Cost |
|---|---|
| Google AI Pro | $19.99/month |
| 5% top-up fee on $19.99 | about $1.00/month |
| Card issuance (one time) | $10 |
| First year | about $261.88 ($20.99 x 12 + $10) |
Gemini API, a developer sending 10M input and 2M output tokens a month:
| Period | Input | Output | Monthly total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Until Nov 30, 2026 | 10 x $2 = $20 | 2 x $10 = $20 | $40 |
| From Dec 1, 2026 | 10 x $4 = $40 | 2 x $20 = $40 | $80 |
Rates from Google. Through OpenRouter, add its credit purchase fee. Through any crypto card, add that card's top-up fee: 5% on Virtual for AI & Ad Spend, so $2 on $40 or $4 on $80.
The December price change matters more than the payment fee. If you are budgeting a workload, plan around the $4/$20 rate.
| You want | Crypto route | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Argon in the Gemini app | Crypto card on Google One, or Play balance where supported | Card may be declined; Play balance needs manual top-ups |
| Argon on the API, no card | OpenRouter with USDC | OpenRouter's purchase fee; crypto purchases are manual |
| A direct Google API key | A non-prepaid card is the safe option | Google Cloud says prepaid cards aren't accepted |
| Heavy agentic use | Google AI Ultra | $99.99 or $199.99 a month |
For most people who just want to use Argon, Google AI Pro at $19.99 is the starting point. A crypto card is the simplest way to pay it if Google accepts the card, and Play balance is the fallback where it is supported.
SolCard's Virtual for AI & Ad Spend is built for AI subscriptions, and its costs are simple: $10 once and 5% per top-up. Its limits are real too: the 5% fee is higher than a bank card, and it is a prepaid card, which Google Cloud says it doesn't accept. For the API, OpenRouter with USDC avoids the card question entirely. Compare all SolCard cards on the virtual cards page and full pricing on /fees.
In the Gemini app, Argon comes with Google AI Pro at $19.99 a month or Google AI Ultra at $99.99 or $199.99 a month, per Google. On the API, it costs $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens until November 30, 2026, then $4 and $20, per Google.
Yes. Google says "Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers" can use Gemini 4 Argon in the Gemini app, per Google. Ultra has higher usage limits.
No. It is not on the free Gemini API tier, per Google, and the free Gemini app plan uses Flash-Lite, per Google.
Not directly. Google One takes cards, a US bank account, PayPal and, in selected countries, Google Play balance, per Google One Help. You can fund a card or buy Play balance with crypto and pay with that.
Google Cloud says "Prepaid cards aren't accepted for payment," per Google Cloud. Gemini API billing runs on a Cloud Billing account, so a prepaid card may be refused. OpenRouter, which accepts USDC, is the card-free alternative.
Argon is generally available now. Carbon was announced on October 28, 2026, and is limited to a subset of cyber defenders, with no access yet for developers, businesses or consumers, per Google.
Yes. Google lists $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens "starting December 1, 2026," double the current rate, per Google.
