The Gnosis Pay card shutdown is set for 23:59 UTC on December 20, 2026, when physical and virtual Gnosis Pay cards stop working and the web app closes for everything except withdrawals, per Gnosis Pay's formal notice. Your funds stay in your Gnosis Pay Safe, and there is no deadline to withdraw them. Gnosis Pay is ending its consumer card to focus on card programmes it runs for wallets and fintech apps. This guide covers what stops, what continues, which partner apps take you for each card currency, and what to use if none of them fits.

Why is Gnosis Pay shutting down its card?

Gnosis Pay says it "is ending its consumer-facing services to focus fully on our enterprise card programs," per the formal notice dated September 21, 2026. The company now builds white-label card programmes that other apps put their own brand on.

The notice names the card issuer as Monavate Ltd (regulated by the FCA) for UK and other applicable non-EEA cardholders, and UAB Monavate (regulated by the Bank of Lithuania) for EEA cardholders. Gnosis Pay is the technical services provider and programme manager, per the same notice.

The shutdown was announced before the November data breach covered below. The breach did not cause it.

What stops and what continues on December 20?

Gnosis Pay's help centre splits it into two lists, per What stops and what continues.

The withdrawal page stays at app.gnosispay.com/withdraw, and Gnosis Pay has published its code on GitHub, per the same article. Because the Safe belongs to you, any Safe-compatible wallet can also reach it.

What happens to subscriptions on the old card?

They fail. The formal notice says recurring payments on the card will fail after the cut-off, and that Gnosis Pay and Monavate cannot move them to another card, so you have to update each merchant yourself, per the notice.

The same notice warns that a merchant refund arriving after the card is deactivated "cannot be used for a card transaction." Contact Gnosis Pay if that happens. Your rights over unauthorised or incorrectly executed transactions are not affected.

Which partner apps can Gnosis Pay users move to?

It depends on your card's currency, per Gnosis Pay's Which apps you can move to:

Card currencyPartner appWhat carries over
EURRebind (recommended)"Your account, IBAN and card carry over, and there are no new ID checks"
USD, in BrazilPicnicNo new ID checks; your card doesn't change at this stage
USD, outside BrazilMiniPayNothing: MiniPay runs on Celo, so you open a new account
GBPNone yetGnosis Pay says it is "actively working on a solution for GBP cardholders"

If you already use a partner app such as the Gnosis App or GreenCart, that app is integrating with Gnosis Pay's new platform and will invite you to move, per the same article.

Rebind's own page confirms the currency limit: "Only EUR Gnosis Pay accounts can be migrated. Accounts in USD or GBP are not supported," per Rebind.

Moving to a partner is a new contract. Gnosis Pay says each partner programme has its own eligibility rules, supported currencies and chains, FX, limits, fees and rewards, and these may differ from your current card terms, per the formal notice. The switch can also happen in two stages: some apps import your setup first and issue a partner card later.

If you used the card through Zeal, note that Zeal's card services also end by December 20, 2026. Gnosis Pay advises withdrawing any earn balance before migrating, because assets left there aren't picked up, per Which apps you can move to.

What was the Gnosis Pay data breach?

On November 3, 2026, Gnosis Pay's monitoring detected "unauthorised access to the system powering Gnosis Pay-branded cards," per its breach notice. Containment began within two hours, and the credentials involved were replaced.

What Gnosis Pay has said:

  • Data, not funds. Certain customer information was exposed; funds were not affected, per the notice.
  • Affected customers were emailed with exactly what was taken from their account. Gnosis Pay has not said publicly what data was exposed or how many customers were affected, per Decrypt.
  • Only the consumer system. The enterprise platform behind white-label cards was not affected, per the notice.
  • 3D Secure on every online payment. Gnosis Pay made 3D Secure mandatory for all online card payments until the consumer system is retired on December 20, per the notice.

That last change means every online purchase now asks you to confirm in a second step. If you haven't used it before, our explainer on 3D Secure for crypto card payments covers what the prompt looks like and why it can fail.

The bigger risk is phishing. Exposed personal details make fake "migration" messages more convincing. Gnosis Pay tells customers never to share their seed phrase, private keys, PIN or full card number, and to go to the official web app or partner app directly, per the notice. A message urging you to "move funds before the deadline" is a red flag: there is no deadline on withdrawals.

What did the Gnosis Pay card cost?

Gnosis Pay's fee page listed "No transaction fees when spending with your card" and "No added fees from Gnosis Pay for currency conversions," with Visa's rate applied at purchase, per Gnosis Pay's fees and limits. Other figures from the same page:

  • Card: free shipping of the physical card; replacement 4.99 EURe/GBPe/USDCe.
  • ATM: 500 a day, 250 per withdrawal; up to 5 free withdrawals or 200 a month, whichever comes first, then 2% per withdrawal.
  • Spending: 8,000 a day and 5,000 per transaction.

That fee schedule is a high bar for any replacement. A €200 purchase on a EUR Gnosis Pay card cost 200 EURe and no card fee. When you compare replacements, look at total cost per purchase rather than headline fees. Our guide to crypto card foreign transaction fees shows how FX spreads and per-transaction fees add up.

What can I use instead of the Gnosis Pay card?

Start with the partner app for your currency if one exists. It is the only route that keeps your existing account active after December 20, per Gnosis Pay's How to prepare. If you hold a GBP card, live outside Brazil with a USD card and don't want MiniPay, or simply want a second card, these are the two kinds of replacement. If you're new to the difference, read what a crypto debit card is first.

Another self-custody card: MetaMask Card

The MetaMask Card keeps the Gnosis Pay model: "you maintain self-custody of your funds until the second you pay," per MetaMask. For a former Gnosis Pay user, its token list is the useful part: it includes EURe and GBPe alongside mUSD, wETH, USDC and USDT, per the same page.

What MetaMask's card page lists:

  • Networks: Linea, Solana, Monad and Base. Gnosis Chain is not on the list, so you would move funds out of your Safe first.
  • Tiers: a free Virtual card or a Metal card at $199 a year.
  • Mobile wallets: Apple Pay and Google Pay.
  • Regions: the UK, Brazil and many European countries are on its availability list. MetaMask says US signups are temporarily closed.

All figures are per MetaMask's card page. We compare it in detail in SolCard vs MetaMask Card.

A prepaid crypto card: SolCard

SolCard is a prepaid Visa / Mastercard card. You top it up from a crypto wallet with USDT, USDC or SOL on Solana, Ethereum, Base, Polygon and more, and spend the balance anywhere Visa or Mastercard works. It needs no bank account and no credit check.

Apple Pay / Google PayNoYes
Top-up fee5%0%
FX spread1-2%0-1.5%
Monthly limit$10,000No limit
Identity verificationNot requiredRequired (KYC + liveness)

Top-up fees and FX spreads are on SolCard fees. Both tiers charge $0.30 per transaction, per the SolCard help-centre fee breakdown, and each card costs $10 to issue. The Virtual tier needs no ID, up to its $10,000 monthly limit.

For a Gnosis Pay user in the UK, EEA or Brazil, Platinum is the closer match: a physical card, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and a 0% top-up. On a €200 purchase that needs currency conversion, Platinum adds €0-€3.00 in FX spread plus the $0.30 transaction fee. On the Virtual tier, the 5% top-up adds about €10 to the money needed for the same purchase, before a 1-2% spread.

SolCard's limitations next to a Gnosis Pay card are real:

  • It is custodial. After a top-up, the balance sits with the card programme, not in a Safe you control.
  • It costs more per purchase. Gnosis Pay charged no transaction or added FX fee; SolCard charges $0.30 per transaction and an FX spread.
  • No IBAN. SolCard is a card, not an account that receives euro transfers.
  • Country limits. The United States can get the Virtual card only, and the help centre lists restricted countries, including Nigeria, South Africa, Ukraine and Russia.

You can see the Virtual card on the virtual cards page.

How do I prepare before December 20?

Gnosis Pay's How to prepare checklist, plus the steps a replacement card adds:

  1. Pick your route. Partner app for your currency, or a different card.
  2. Withdraw or move funds you want to spend. Your Safe stays reachable after the cut-off, but a new card needs funds where it can use them. If you used Zeal, clear any earn balance first.
  3. List your recurring payments. Subscriptions, ad accounts, cloud bills: anything billed to the Gnosis Pay card number.
  4. Update each merchant with the new card before its next renewal. Gnosis Pay can't move them for you.
  5. Redirect income to your IBAN if you've stopped using that wallet, or move the IBAN to a wallet you use.
  6. Export your history. In the web app, use the Download Card Transactions button before December 20.

Don't wait for the last week. Partner apps move to the new platform on their own timelines, and Gnosis Pay says the partner will tell you when, per What stops and what continues.

Verdict

The Gnosis Pay card ends on December 20, 2026, but your money doesn't: the Safe, the funds in it and the EUR IBAN all continue. EUR cardholders have the easiest path, since Rebind carries the account, IBAN and card over. USD cardholders in Brazil can use Picnic. GBP cardholders have no partner yet, and USD cardholders elsewhere have to start fresh on MiniPay.

If you want to keep self-custody and spend EURe or GBPe, the MetaMask Card is one option, after moving funds off Gnosis Chain. If you hold USDT, USDC or SOL on several networks and want a card that isn't tied to one wallet, SolCard Platinum has a 0% top-up outside the US, and the Virtual tier starts at $10 with a 5% top-up. Our list of the best crypto debit cards covers more options. Whichever you choose, move your subscriptions before the cut-off.
