Most rewards cards give you cashback. You spend, and a small slice trickles back. SolCard Drops work on a different idea. The same spending you already do earns you entries into prize draws, and the prizes tend to be things you wouldn't buy for yourself: a PlayStation, a flagship phone, a Rolex. You never pay to enter, and every draw can be checked on-chain after it runs.

This guide covers what a Drop is, how you earn and use entries, how the draws stay honest, and how winners get paid.

What a Drop actually is

A Drop is a prize draw that runs for a set window inside the SolCard app. There's a prize, a countdown, and a pool of entries from everyone who joined. When the clock hits zero, one entry wins, and the prize either ships to the winner or gets paid out as cash.

What separates it from a normal raffle is that there's nothing to buy. You don't purchase tickets and you don't put money into a pot. Your entries come from using your card, and that's the only way to get them.

Earning entries

There's one rule for entries: spend on your card and you earn them. Every dollar you spend is worth 100 entries. A four-dollar coffee gets you 400. A sixty-dollar grocery run gets you 6,000. The rate doesn't change, and you don't do anything to trigger it.

A few things worth knowing:

  • Entries come from spending, not from topping up. Loading crypto onto your card earns nothing. Buying something with it earns entries.
  • They don't expire. Whatever you've earned sits in your balance until you decide to use it.
  • There's no fee to hold them and nothing to tap at checkout. Pay in person or online anywhere Visa works, and the entries show up.

Since entries track real spending, the people with the biggest balances are simply the people who use their card the most.

Entering a drop

Earning entries and entering a drop are two separate steps. Your entries collect in one balance, and you decide when and where to put them to work.

Open the Drops feed in the app, or see what's live on the drops page. Each drop shows its prize, its tier, and how long is left. Pick one, choose how many entries to commit, and join. You can put everything on a single prize you really want, or spread your balance across a few drops at once.

That one balance covers every live drop, and entries only leave it the moment you join. Staking more on a drop gives you a bigger share of the pool and better odds, but a single entry still counts. That's the part people like: a small purchase can be the one that wins.

The three tiers

Drops are sorted into three tiers, so you can chase frequent small wins or hold out for something rare.

TierWhat's in itBest for
StandardGadgets, accessories, gift cardsFrequent draws and the friendliest odds, where most wins happen
PremiumFlagship phones, designer goods, weekend tripsMore value for a moderate stake
ExclusiveRolexes, rare watches, sneakers, collectiblesHeadline prizes worth saving your entries for

Every drop shows its prize and tier before you commit anything, so you always know what you're playing for. Prizes rotate constantly, so the live feed is the place to check what's running.

How winners get picked

Most prize draws ask you to trust they were run fairly, and you can't check. SolCard does it the other way around, so anyone can verify a result.

Before a drop closes, SolCard creates a secret seed for the draw, runs it through SHA-256, and publishes the resulting hash. Locking that hash in ahead of time means the seed can't be swapped later without the numbers failing to match.

When the drop closes, the winning entry is worked out from that seed combined with a Solana block hash from a block that hasn't been produced yet. Nobody can know that block hash in advance, so nobody can know the winner in advance either, SolCard included.

After the draw, SolCard reveals the original seed. Anyone can take it, combine it with the block hash that landed on-chain, redo the math, and confirm the winner matches both the published hash and the real Solana block. If you want to run it yourself, the formula is SHA256(seed + Solana block hash) mod total entries.

Getting your prize

Winners choose how they want the prize. A physical item ships to an address you give. If a drop pays out in cash, it's sent automatically as USDT on Solana to a wallet address you provide. There's no spend-more-to-claim step and no wagering requirement. The prize is yours.

Is this gambling?

No. Gambling means putting up something of value for a chance to win. With Drops you never put up anything. You don't buy entries and you don't deposit into a prize pool. The entries are a byproduct of spending you were doing anyway, so joining a drop costs you nothing beyond entries you got for free.

It's closer to a store loyalty program that enters you into a draw for shopping there. There's no stake, so there's no bet.

Drops versus cashback

If you're weighing up crypto card rewards, it helps to see where Drops sit next to regular cashback. Our crypto card rewards statistics piece covers the broader market, but the short version is below.

Best forGuaranteed valueA shot at something bigger

One isn't better than the other. Cashback gives you a small, guaranteed return. Drops trade that for a shot at something much larger, and neither costs you extra. With SolCard, the spending you were going to do anyway is your way in.

Getting started

You don't need to do anything special to start earning entries beyond having a card and using it.

  1. Get a SolCard at solcard.cc. Pick Virtual for online use with no KYC, or Platinum for a physical card with Apple Pay and Google Pay. If crypto cards are new to you, our crypto debit card guide walks through the basics.
  2. Top it up with SOL, USDC, or USDT. Stablecoins work across 9+ networks, so you can fund from whichever chain you already hold on.
  3. Spend it. Every dollar adds 100 entries to your balance on its own.
  4. Join the drops you want from the Drops feed.

That's the whole loop. Spend crypto the way you normally would, and the same spending builds toward prizes. To see what's live and browse past winners, head to solcard.cc/drops.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to pay to enter a SolCard Drop?

No. There's no entry fee and no deposit. You earn entries automatically at 100 per dollar spent on your card, and joining a drop just spends entries you already have. Taking part never costs anything beyond your normal spending.

How do I earn Drop entries?

By spending on your card. Every dollar you spend adds 100 entries to your balance, with nothing to click at checkout. Topping up your card doesn't earn entries; actually paying for something does.

Do Drop entries expire?

No. They stay in your balance until you stake them on a drop. There's no expiry and no fee to hold them, so you can save up for a bigger prize or play smaller Standard drops whenever you feel like it.

How are Drop winners picked?

With a draw that's verifiable on Solana. Before a drop closes, the draw's seed is hashed and published. At close, the winner comes from that seed plus a future Solana block hash, run through SHA-256 and taken modulo the total entries. Afterward the seed is revealed so anyone can redo the math and check it. Nobody, SolCard included, can know or change the outcome ahead of time.

Can SolCard rig a drop?

No. The result depends on a Solana block hash that doesn't exist yet when the drop closes, plus a seed committed to in advance through a published hash. SolCard can't hand-pick a winner or alter the result after entries close, and any finished draw can be audited by anyone.

What can you win in a SolCard Drop?

Prizes come in three tiers. Standard has gadgets, accessories, and gift cards. Premium steps up to flagship phones, designer goods, and weekend trips. Exclusive is the high end: Rolexes, rare watches, sought-after sneakers, and collectibles. Each drop shows its prize and tier before you join, and the lineup changes regularly.

How do I get paid if I win?

Your choice. Physical prizes ship to an address you give. Cash prizes are paid automatically in USDT on Solana to a wallet you provide. There's nothing extra to do to claim a win.

Is SolCard Drops gambling?

No. Gambling involves paying something for a chance to win, and you never pay to enter a Drop. Entries come from ordinary card spending rather than bets or deposits, so a Drop rewards how you already use your card instead of asking you to risk your own money.

Where can I see live drops and past winners?

Both are public at solcard.cc/drops. Because every draw is verifiable, past results include what you need to confirm each winner on-chain, so you can check the system is honest before you ever enter one.
