What SolCard Actually Covers on Steam
Valve announced on December 6, 2017 that Steam was no longer supporting Bitcoin, and no cryptocurrency has replaced it since. Steam's checkout is cards, PayPal, and regional payment methods, so a crypto route has to arrive as a card charge. That is the whole reason SolCard has a place in a Steam purchase.
Steam's add-funds page offers fixed top-ups of 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 in your wallet currency, and Steam says those funds may be used for the purchase of any game on Steam or within a game that supports Steam transactions. Direct cart checkout avoids leftover balance; a Wallet top-up gives you a pool that also reaches in-game stores.
Steam lets you buy a game for someone else, and says unredeemed gifts may be refunded within the standard 14-day and two-hour window. Once the recipient redeems it, only they can request the refund. That timing is worth knowing before you fund a gift purchase.
Steam says a refund is issued either as Steam Wallet funds or back through the original payment method, and that if the original method fails, the full amount goes to your Steam Wallet instead. A card-funded purchase can therefore come back as store credit rather than as money, which changes how you plan a large buy.
Valve's subscriber agreement says recurring payment subscriptions can charge a credit card, a funded Steam Wallet, or another applicable payment processor. Steam adds that an unused renewable subscription may be refunded within 48 hours of the initial purchase or of any automatic renewal, so a funded card and an alert on that window pair well.
Steam says its storefront supports more than 100 payment methods across over 35 currencies, publishes a dedicated Region Restrictions article, and bars users from masking their residence to reach pricing that does not apply to their geography. SolCard fits the region you actually buy in, not a region-hopping workaround.
Cryptocurrencies You Can Use for Steam Purchases
About Steam
Steam is Valve's storefront for PC games, DLC, software, in-game purchases, Steam Wallet funds, and selected hardware. Real Steam charges can be one-off cart purchases, prepaid Wallet top-ups in fixed denominations, or recurring subscription renewals that bill a card or funded Wallet. SolCard lets you cover those documented Steam payments with crypto while Valve still handles checkout through Steam's normal billing flow.
Steam Payment FAQ
No. Valve announced on December 6, 2017 that Steam was no longer supporting Bitcoin, and Steam has not added any cryptocurrency since, Litecoin included. Today's Steam billing and support flows describe cards, PayPal, and regional payment methods only. Anything advertised as a crypto checkout for Steam is a third party, not Valve.
