SolCard customers have successfully paid Moonshot AI (Kimi) with the Virtual for AI & Ad Spend card (as of October 2026). Top it up with USDT, USDC, USDG, EURC, ETH, BNB, POL, AVAX, HYPE, wBTC, wETH or SOL: $10 for the card, 5% per top-up. Get Virtual for AI & Ad Spend.
Moonshot AI does not list crypto as a way to pay for Kimi. Its API docs cover top-ups and rate limits but name no crypto option, so the practical route is a card you fund with crypto. The Kimi API needs a minimum top-up of $1 before the first call, per Moonshot's recharge page, and the consumer membership bills a card every month or year.
Kimi is two separate products with two separate bills. The membership is a chat and coding subscription on kimi.com. The API is a pay-as-you-go balance on the Kimi Open Platform. This guide covers what each costs, how to fund each from a wallet, and what changes for new API accounts on October 31, 2026.
- Get a crypto-funded card. Virtual for AI & Ad Spend is a prepaid virtual card you top up with stablecoins or other crypto.
- Top it up with enough for the charge. For the API, anything from $1. For a membership, the plan price plus a small buffer.
- Pick the product. Membership: open the pricing page on kimi.com and choose a plan. API: sign in to the Kimi Open Platform and open the top-up page.
- Enter the card number, expiry and CVV at checkout. Keep the card topped up before each renewal date if you subscribe.
Moonshot's own docs draw the line clearly: the API "is billed on a pay-as-you-go basis, with no subscription plan" and is a different product from the membership and Kimi Code (Model Inference Pricing). Paying for one does not fund the other.
| Kimi membership | Kimi Open Platform (API) | |
|---|---|---|
| What you get | Chat, Kimi Code and agent features on kimi.com | API keys for K3-series and K2-series models |
| Billing | Monthly or annual subscription | Prepaid balance, billed per token |
| Minimum | The plan price | $1 top-up to start |
| Who it suits | People using the app or Kimi Code | Developers calling the models from code |
Kimi's pricing page loads its prices in the browser, so we checked them against UsagePricing's captures of that page. Its September 28, 2026 snapshot shows the four paid plans renamed with unchanged prices:
| Plan (new name) | Old name | Monthly | Annual |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plus | Moderato | $19 | $180 |
| Pro | Allegretto | $39 | $372 |
| Max | Allegro | $99 | $948 |
| Ultra | Vivace | $199 | $1,908 |
The same snapshot says Kimi Code dropped its weekly cap "with total allowances adjusted accordingly", and that Moonshot did not publish the new totals. If you see the old names at checkout, you are looking at the same tiers.
The API side is simpler and better documented.
- "A minimum recharge of $1 is required to start using the API," per the recharge and rate limits page.
- When your cumulative top-ups reach $5, Moonshot adds a $5 voucher. Vouchers do not count toward your cumulative total.
- Rate limits follow your top-ups. Concurrency, requests per minute and tokens per day are set by your cumulative recharge tier. Paying more over time raises your limits.
- K3 models need a paid balance first. The K3 quickstart says K3 becomes available after a successful top-up of at least $1.
- K2 is closing to new accounts. From October 31, 2026, K2-series models are no longer available to newly registered users, and Moonshot plans to retire all K2 models by the end of December 2026.
- Risk controls are final. The same page warns that when the system detects abnormal activity, a rate-limiting policy is triggered and "the restriction cannot be lifted."
That last point is a reason to keep your payments boring. One card, one account, top-ups that match your actual use.
A crypto-funded card is the only route that covers both the membership and the API from a wallet.
| What you buy | Card charge | SolCard fee at 5% |
|---|---|---|
| Kimi Plus, monthly | $19 | $0.95 |
| Kimi Pro, monthly | $39 | $1.95 |
| API top-up | $20 | $1.00 |
| API top-up | $100 | $5.00 |
The 5% applies to each top-up of the card, not to Kimi's charge. Add the one-time $10 card fee in your first month. The dashboard shows the exact cost before you pay.
Moonshot does not publish a decline guide, so these are the causes we see across AI checkouts on crypto-funded cards.
- Not enough balance on the card. Memberships renew automatically. If the card holds less than the renewal, the charge fails.
- A card the checkout's risk rules don't like. Many prepaid cards fail at AI merchants even with money on them. That is the problem Virtual for AI & Ad Spend was built for.
- Billing details that don't match. Use the name and address on your SolCard account.
- Rapid retries. Several failed attempts in a few minutes look like card testing. Wait before trying again, and given Moonshot's note on irreversible risk restrictions, don't cycle through cards.
- 3D Secure. Complete the 3D Secure prompt if one appears on the first charge.
SolCard built Virtual for AI & Ad Spend for merchants where crypto cards often fail: AI subscriptions, API credits and ad platforms. SolCard customers have paid Moonshot AI with it, so it covers both the membership and the API top-up from one balance.
What it doesn't do: it doesn't make Kimi cheaper, and the 5% top-up fee is a real cost on a $19 plan. The card is virtual only and can't be added to Apple Pay or Google Pay, which doesn't matter for a web checkout. If you also use other model providers, the same card works on OpenRouter and DeepSeek.
Moonshot's documentation doesn't list crypto as a payment method for the membership or the API. The practical route is a card you top up with crypto. SolCard customers have successfully paid Moonshot AI with the Virtual for AI & Ad Spend card as of October 2026.
Per UsagePricing's September 28, 2026 capture of Kimi's pricing page, the plans are $19, $39, $99 and $199 a month, or $180, $372, $948 and $1,908 a year. The tiers are now called Plus, Pro, Max and Ultra. Check kimi.com before you buy, since the page loads prices in the browser.
$1. Moonshot requires a minimum recharge of $1 before you can call the API, and adds a $5 voucher once your cumulative top-ups reach $5. Your cumulative total also sets your rate-limit tier.
No. Moonshot says the API is pay-as-you-go with no subscription plan, and is separate from the membership and Kimi Code. You fund the API balance on its own.
Not after October 31, 2026. From that date K2-series models are unavailable to newly registered users, and Moonshot plans to retire all K2 models by the end of December 2026. New accounts should start on the K3 series.
For Kimi, the payment method question is really two questions. The API is easy to fund from a wallet: a $1 minimum, a prepaid balance, and a card you can top up when you need to. The membership is a recurring charge, so the card has to hold enough on renewal day. One crypto-funded card handles both. Moonshot's warning that risk restrictions can't be lifted is the best argument for paying with one stable card rather than trying several.
