How to Pay for Windsurf with Crypto in 2026 (USDC, USDT, SOL)

pay for Windsurf with crypto

Windsurf does not accept cryptocurrency. Every plan -- Free, Pro, Max, Teams, Enterprise -- bills through Stripe, and the accepted methods are major credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Cash App Pay, Link, WeChat Pay, and Alipay. None of those is a crypto rail: no wallet connect, no on-chain invoice, no USDC option at checkout.

The workaround is to put your crypto behind a normal card number. A crypto-funded Visa or Mastercard converts your balance to fiat when Windsurf charges it, so Cognition's billing system sees an ordinary card transaction. More than 99% of Windsurf authorizations on SolCard cards are approved.

Windsurf pricing in 2026

Cognition acquired Windsurf, retired the old credit pool on March 19, 2026 in favor of daily and weekly quotas, and folded the public pricing page into the Devin pricing page after the June 2026 rebrand to Devin Desktop. Same editor, shared price list.

PlanPriceWhat you get
Free$0/moLight daily quota, limited models, unlimited Tab completions
Pro$20/moFull model availability, standard daily and weekly quotas, cloud agents
Max$200/moPro with substantially higher quotas
Teams$80/mo base + $40/mo per full dev seatUnlimited members, but only a full dev seat carries quota and Devin Desktop access; shared context, centralized billing, admin dashboard
EnterpriseCustomSAML/OIDC SSO, dedicated deployment and account management

Pro at $20/month is where most individual developers land. Tab autocomplete draws down no quota on any plan, so the $20 buys agent throughput and full model access. Past the included quota, extra usage is purchasable at API pricing rather than forced as a tier upgrade.

Teams math surprises people, because "unlimited team members" sits directly next to a per-seat price. The seat is the unit that matters: only a full dev seat carries its own quota and Devin Desktop access, so budget one $40 seat per developer who will actually use the editor. Five of them is $80 + (5 x $40) = $280/month, not $200, billed as one recurring charge on one card.

Why Windsurf is hard to pay for with crypto

The payment options you see depend on where you are. Stripe shows a region-specific set of methods, and Windsurf's billing documentation tells users to disable a VPN so their region's methods appear. Whether a card then clears is the issuing bank's decision, and a local card that works fine domestically can still fail on a recurring USD charge from a US software company. That is the wall most developers outside the US hit first.

Stripe is the only rail. Payment method changes go through a Stripe customer portal launched from the Windsurf billing page. Whatever Stripe rejects, Windsurf rejects.

Prepaid and virtual BINs get filtered. Developer tools attract abuse, so Stripe risk rules on AI platforms lean hard on BIN reputation. Ranges flagged as prepaid or reloadable bounce even when funded.

It is a subscription, not a one-off. Single-use card numbers from gift-card style services work once and then fail the renewal, which drops you to the Free quota mid-sprint.

Extra usage is a second charge on the same card. Past your included quota you can buy extra usage at API pricing. It is opt-in, so it never silently inflates your renewal invoice, but it hits the same card, and a balance sized to exactly one month's sticker price leaves no room for it.

Method 1: a crypto-funded Visa or Mastercard

You load crypto onto a card, the provider converts it to fiat at the point of sale, and Windsurf charges it every month like a bank-issued card. A crypto debit card survives renewals without you touching anything.

How it works

  1. Sign up with a crypto card provider and get a card issued.
  2. Top up with stablecoins or SOL from your own wallet.
  3. Go to windsurf.com/subscription/manage-plan and click Update Payment.
  4. Enter the card number, expiry, and CVV in the Stripe portal.
  5. Windsurf charges the card each renewal date, drawing down the balance.

SolCard accepts SOL, USDC, USDT, and SOLC across nine networks -- Solana, Ethereum, Polygon, BSC, HyperEVM, Arbitrum, Optimism, Avalanche, and Base -- so you can send from whichever chain your funds already sit on. Cards run on Visa and Mastercard rails in 200+ countries, and are not available in Hong Kong.

Pros:

  • Survives automatic renewals with no manual step
  • Absorbs extra-usage purchases as long as the balance covers them
  • Works when your local bank card will not clear a recurring USD charge
  • One card covers a whole Teams subscription

Cons:

  • Top-up fees add a few percent to the sticker price
  • The balance has to stay loaded or the renewal fails
  • Card issuance is not free on every tier

What it costs on Windsurf Pro and Max

Providers charge at different points -- some on the top-up, some on the conversion at spend. Here is the same Windsurf charge across the main options, at published pricing:

ProviderCrypto-to-fiat feeWindsurf Pro ($20/mo)Windsurf Max ($200/mo)
SolCard Platinum0%$20.00$200.00
SolCard Virtual5%$21.00$210.00
Bybit Card~0.9% conversion$20.18$201.80
Cwallet Cozy Card~1.8%$20.36$203.60
RedotPay1% conversion (crypto top-ups free)$20.20$202.00
Moon1%, $1.00 minimum$21.00$202.00

The two SolCard tiers are different products:

  • Virtual -- online use, $10 one-time issuance, 5% top-up fee, $5,000/month limit, 1-2% FX. On Pro that is $1/month over sticker; expensive at Max or Teams volume.
  • Platinum -- physical, Apple Pay and Google Pay, no monthly limit, 0% top-up fee, 0-1.5% FX, identity verification required. On a $280/month Teams plan it saves $14/month against Virtual.

FX only matters if your card settles in a currency other than USD. Windsurf bills in USD, so a USD-settled card sees no spread on top of the top-up fee. Our best crypto debit cards roundup covers the wider field.

Method 2: off-ramp to a bank account first

If you would rather not hold a card balance, sell crypto on an exchange, withdraw fiat to your bank, and pay Windsurf with an ordinary bank card.

How it works

  1. Sell SOL, USDC, or USDT on an exchange you already use.
  2. Withdraw fiat to your bank, typically 1-3 business days.
  3. Add your bank card to the Windsurf billing page.
  4. Let it renew from your bank balance.

Pros:

  • Bank-issued BINs have the cleanest acceptance profile at Stripe
  • No top-up fee on the card side
  • Handles extra-usage purchases without any balance management

Cons:

  • Slow, since the first payment waits on a bank settlement window
  • Exchange trading and withdrawal fees eat the savings
  • Requires a bank account in a supported country -- exactly the constraint many developers are routing around
  • Selling crypto for fiat is a disposal in most tax jurisdictions

Right answer if you already move between crypto and banking regularly. Wrong answer if you are here because no bank card of yours clears on Windsurf's checkout.

Step-by-step: paying for Windsurf Pro with a crypto card

1. Issue the card

Pick your tier first: Virtual at $1/month in top-up fees on Pro, Platinum if you are on Max or Teams, where the 0% top-up pays for itself immediately.

2. Fund it with a buffer

Load at least $30 for Pro, or $220 for Max. Stripe places an authorization before the charge settles, often for slightly more than the charge itself, so a balance sized exactly to the sticker price is the most common cause of a failed renewal.

Stablecoins are the predictable choice: USDC or USDT arrive at a known dollar value. SOL converts at the market rate when it lands.

3. Add the card in Windsurf billing

  1. Go to windsurf.com/subscription/manage-plan. From inside the editor, click Windsurf Settings on the status bar and open the Plan Info tab, which links to the same page.
  2. Select your plan, then click Update Payment, which opens Stripe's customer portal.
  3. Enter the card number, expiry, and CVV.
  4. Enter a billing address that matches the card's issuing country.
  5. Confirm the subscription.

If the card does not appear as an option, turn off any VPN first -- Windsurf's billing docs note that Stripe shows the payment methods relevant to your detected region.

4. Check the charge

Your card provider's transaction history should show an authorization from Cognition or Windsurf, then a settled charge. If an authorization never settles, wait a full business day before retrying. Set a reminder a few days before each renewal date.

Fixing declines on Windsurf checkout

Billing address mismatch. The most common failure. If your card is issued on a US BIN, use a US billing address; a mismatch between BIN country and billing country is an easy decline for Stripe to justify.

Insufficient balance for the authorization. Stripe often authorizes slightly above the charge amount, so $20.00 loaded on a $20 subscription is not enough. Keep $5-$10 of headroom.

Do not retry rapidly. Repeated failures in a short window compound the risk score against your card and your account. Wait 24 hours between attempts.

3D Secure. Some crypto cards cannot complete 3DS challenges. Confirm your provider supports it before relying on the card for a recurring charge.

An extra-usage purchase drew the balance down. Extra usage bills as a separate charge on the same card. If a renewal fails in a month you also bought usage, check the transaction history before blaming the card -- the balance may simply have gone out on the other charge.

Which method fits you

Solo developer on Pro. Crypto-funded virtual card. The 5% top-up on $20 is $1/month, less than the time cost of off-ramping monthly.

Heavy user on Max. Platinum, or whichever card gets you closest to a 0% top-up. At $200/month a 5% fee is $120/year on one line item.

Team lead paying for seats. Platinum. Five full dev seats is $280/month on one card, where the 0% top-up saves $14/month against Virtual's 5%.

Developer with a bank card that already clears. Use it. If your existing card goes through on a recurring USD charge, the crypto layer buys you little beyond keeping funds on-chain.

Developer paying for several AI tools. Consolidate onto one card and stagger the renewal dates. Our best AI subscriptions to pay with crypto comparison covers how the major tools handle card payments, and the Cursor guide walks through the closest competitor's checkout.

Tax treatment of paying for Windsurf with crypto

In most jurisdictions, spending cryptocurrency is a disposal of an asset, whether you sell it on an exchange or spend it through a card. The card only moves where the conversion happens.

Stablecoins are the cleanest instrument for a recurring subscription. USDC or USDT acquired at roughly $1 has an effectively zero gain on disposal. Topping up with SOL disposes of an asset whose cost basis probably differs from its current value -- twelve small taxable events a year, versus twelve non-events with stablecoins.

Our guide to spending crypto without tax headaches covers the mechanics. Rules vary by country, so confirm with a local advisor before filing.

Frequently asked questions

Does Windsurf accept crypto directly?

No. Windsurf bills through Stripe on every plan, and the accepted methods are major credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Cash App Pay, Link, WeChat Pay, and Alipay -- no wallet connect, no USDC checkout option, no on-chain invoicing. Paying with crypto requires a card funded by crypto.

Can I pay for Windsurf with USDC or USDT?

Not to Windsurf directly. Load USDC or USDT onto a crypto card and use that card on the Windsurf billing page. SolCard accepts both across nine networks including Solana, Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, and Polygon. For an overview, see how to pay with crypto.

How much does Windsurf cost in 2026?

Free is $0, Pro is $20/month, Max is $200/month, and Teams is $80/month base plus $40/month per full dev seat -- the seat carrying the developer's quota and Devin Desktop access. Enterprise is custom-priced, and extra usage is purchasable at API pricing.

Why does my card keep getting declined on Windsurf?

The usual causes are a billing address that does not match the card's issuing country, insufficient balance to cover Stripe's authorization amount, a BIN flagged as prepaid, missing 3D Secure support, or too many failed attempts in a short window. Work through them in that order.

Can one crypto card pay for a Windsurf Teams plan?

Yes. Teams billing is centralized, so one card covers the base fee plus every seat as a single recurring charge. At $280/month for five full dev seats, a 0% top-up tier such as SolCard Platinum saves $14/month against a 5% tier -- $168 a year.

What happens if my Windsurf renewal fails?

Stripe retries on a schedule, and Windsurf drops you to the Free quota if the charge never clears. Nothing in your workspace is deleted, but agent throughput collapses immediately.

Do I need identity verification to get a crypto card for Windsurf?

It depends on the tier. SolCard's Platinum card requires identity verification, and returns a physical card with Apple Pay and Google Pay support and 0% top-up fees. The Virtual tier is the lighter option for online subscriptions.
